Game 1

In all my years of being a baseball fan and more specifically, a New York Mets fan, I have never attended an Opening Day Game. Just a few weeks ago I received that package in the mail. Since the day tickets went on sale for the 2006 season, I had been waiting for my tickets to arrive. Today could not have came any sooner, the day I would for the first time in my life attend Opening Day at Shea. Was it everything I imagined? Yes! Pedro did not throw today, but all my wildest dreams did come true. He still has my vote. Today I did not attend an event. I attended an experience. The atmosphere was full of energy from hopeful fans that this 2006 season, our team would bring it home 20 years since they last took it all way back in 1986. Magic was in the air and everyone present was breathing it. The feeling of being at Shea on this day with 50,000+ fans was intense. Needless to say, the Mets proved victorious in today's contest, but that was only the icing on the cake. Who knows what the rest of the season has in store for us the faithful, but one thing is for certain, if the energy of today carries on, the Mets will be almost an unstoppable force.
